Bruno Lemay lives in Montreal and has been HIV-positive since 2000.
Soon after his diagnosis, he became interested in treatment information
and began delivering educational workshops about HIV. He joined the
Comité des personnes atteintes du VIH du Québec (CPAVIH) in 2001, where
he took charge of the AIDS information phone line.
Bruno then worked in Toronto at the Canadian AIDS Treatment Information
Exchange (CATIE) from 2002 until 2005 as a treatment information
educator. During those three years, he established a treatment
information volunteer training program and presented more than 80
training workshops while developing his skills related to HIV/HCV
co-infection and harm reduction.
Upon his return to CPAVIH in 2006, Bruno assumed the role of
coordinator of the provincial treatment information sector for two
years. This included the phone line, workshops, writing
treatment-related articles and organizing major conferences. Over the
past two years, Bruno has been a member of Quebec’s Comité consultatif
sur la prise en charge clinique de l’infection au VIH and has
collaborated with many community organizations.
Today, Bruno works at the Maison du Parc as coordinator of the Portail
VIH/sida du Québec, a new provincial Internet resource providing
information and innovative learning tools.
In addition to bringing his expertise in education and his interest in
harm reduction, as a member of the CTAC board, Bruno will strive to
mobilize new people and to stimulate interest in treatment access.
